Dennis was lovingly adopted by Esther and George Juett as a baby and raised in Pasadena with his sister, Suzanne Tutt. Dennis attended Linda Vista Elementary School and was part of the first class at Foothill Intermediate School in La Cañada. He graduated in 1953 from Muir High School in Pasadena.
He attended USC as a premed major with plans to become a dentist. Due to his artistic skills, he illustrated a book that his zoology instructor was writing.
He decided against a career in dentistry and changed to art at UCLA, with support from his mother, who always encouraged him in his art.
He met his wife-to-be, Dottie Scott, on Balboa Island. She followed him to UCLA as a freshman in Apparel Design. He was drafted into the Army so after graduation in 1958 they moved to Tacoma, Washington, where he was stationed. There he kept officers’ records and played on the Army golf team for the two years of his military duty.
They returned to Southern California in 1960 and have lived in La Cañada for 56 years. He worked for Douglas Aircraft before Hixon and Jorgensen Advertising. Then he interviewed at a small agency, Faust/Day, which soon became Chiat/Day Advertising and his career began. He helped launch the Honda automobile into the U.S. market. He loved copywriting and designing with the team. As the agency grew, he found he missed the hands-on work of a smaller agency, so founded his own agency in the Wilshire area for about 10 years before moving to Pasadena.
Over the years he had three small agencies, with partners, before starting Dennis S Juett & Associates in 1973. His designs have been displayed in the United States, Europe and Japan. He left his mark locally by designing the Huntington Hospital logo, the Pasadena Community Foundation logo and many others. Dennis was a longtime member of Pasadena Rotary and made many friends there. He was a member of Pasadena Art League and enjoyed many art trips with them.
He leaves his daughter, Denise White, son, Dennis (Patty) Juett and two grandsons Blake and Colin.
He loved all his years in La Cañada. He was a treasure and a true gentleman. He will be missed by all of us.
