Eleanore Lyle Althouse Noonan

Date of Death

Eleanore Lyle Althouse Noonan passed away on September 15, 2023, surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren.
She was born August 21, 1925, to Helen and William S. Althouse in Glendale, California. She was the youngest of four children.
Eleanore met the love of her life, John Noonan, at Glendale High School and they were married for 73 marvelous years. After high school, she attended University of Southern University (USC) and was a lifelong member of Delta Gamma Sorority. Eleanore and John were married on February 16, 1945. They honeymooned crossing the country on the way to Pensacola, Florida, where John reported for P51 flight school training during World War II. After the war, they moved to La Cañada where they lived for 70 years. They have four children, the late Steve Noonan (Justine), Carol Noonan Hull (Brian), Diane Noonan Meador (Ross), Dale Noonan (Kathleen) along with 14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Eleanore was involved in many local organizations. She was a member of the San Marino Guild of Huntington Gardens, where she worked in Japanese flower arranging and as a docent. She was a local Girl Scout leader, Boy Scout den mother, and PTA member.
Eleanore was an active member of the Church of the Lighted Window and served in many capacities on the board. Eleanore and John were active golf members at Oakmont Country Club and formed many friendships while playing the sport they loved. She was a water skier who skied into her 70s.
Eleanore’s greatest joy came from being with her family. She cherished growing up at Hermosa Beach, the family reunion that they started 60 years ago with five other La Cañada families to the Sacramento Delta, their trips that took them around the world and golf junkets.
Eleanore had a smile and warmth that touched everyone that knew her. The world was a better place with her grace, wisdom, charm, and giving heart for 98 years. Although we miss her here with us, we rejoice that she is now with her beloved John and son, Steve.
A memorial service will be held Friday, October 13, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Church of the Lighted Window, 1200 Foothill Blvd., La Cañada, followed by a reception at Oakmont Country Club, 3100 Country Club Drive, Glendale, California.
