Bryan Louis Herrmann, 82, longtime resident of La Cañada Flintridge, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family at dawn on New Year’s Eve.

Bryan Louis Herrmann

Born Dec. 19, 1935, in Los Angeles to Carl and Henrietta Herrmann, he was a true and proud example of a wonderful Southern California life. He made many friendships over the years, attending schools in Glendale, Notre Dame and graduating from Hoover High School, where he loved playing football. There, he would also meet Carol Hutt, who would become his future wife and to whom he would be married for almost 60 years.
Stationed at Point Mugu in the Navy, he enjoyed surfing in his off time and would then go on to earn his bachelor’s and MBA from USC. This led to a passion for the business world, where his creative and hardworking nature served him well in life as an investment banker in senior management positions. He was a consummate USC alumnus member and USC football fan.
The mountains and the ocean were cornerstones in his life. A certified ski instructor, he taught at Snow Valley and Mammoth early on, and later skied often in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Hawaii provided special moments for surfing, marlin fishing, and gatherings with friends and family. He loved to inspire others to find joy in these activities for themselves and was a source of encouragement for his three children: daughters Kelly Wendlberger (Joe) of Redondo Beach; Kasey Hudson (Bill) of Truckee; and son Patrick Herrmann (Julie) of Valencia. He also leaves behind six grandchildren: Gretchen Spicer (Markus), Lauren Wendlberger, Brooks and Anna Hudson, Bryan and Brett Herrmann; and his three siblings: Carl Herrmann, Gretchen Berger, Henrietta “Tinker” Herrmann and numerous nephews and nieces.
Always with a quick wit, a friendly smile, and ears ready to listen, he led by example.
Two words that sum up his life “Fight On.”
