Obituary: Joan Rebecca Pinto Whalen

Joan Rebecca Pinto Whalen, 62, former resident of La Cañada Flintridge, passed away at 9:40 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, at her home in Glendale. Already a 20-year cancer survivor, she passed away in the comfort of her home, surrounded by friends and family.
Joan was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to her late parents, Charles W. Pinto and Eloise M. Pinto. She is survived by her brother, John Pinto, and her sister, Jule Pinto.
Joan graduated from the University of Cincinnati, School of Design, Art and Architecture and received a bachelor’s degree in fashion design. She met the late Timothy Howard Whalen during a work-study program while attending college and they were married in Cincinnati on June 17, 1978.
Joan is survived by her son, Patrick William, and her daughter, Rebecca Louise. Her granddaughter Emma was born on Oct. 1, 2017.
Per her request, there will be no public funeral or memorial service. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the ASPCA or the charity of the giver’s choice.
