The St. Francis High School varsity baseball team secured a 3-1 victory at Ontario Christian in a CIF Southern Section Division IV semifinal game on May 14.
SFHS (19-13 overall) will battle Camarillo High for the Division IV crown on Saturday, May 18, at Lake Elsinore Diamond Stadium at 1 p.m.
Sophomore Aiden Mahoney picked up the win after pitching 6 1/3 innings with five strikeouts, four hits, one unearned run and no walks. Junior Noah Aguilar-Tanphanich recorded the save by retiring the final two batters of the seventh inning.
Senior Holden Deitch went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks, while senior John Calmette registered a hit and two RBIs. Juniors Jackson Pratt and Samuel Rodriguez each finished with a hit and a run, junior Jordan Lewallen contributed a hit and a walk, and senior Brody Ruyle walked once.
The Golden Knights posted a 4-1 victory at Paraclete High in Lancaster in a CIF quarterfinal game on May 10.
Senior Aaron Hernandez pitched four scoreless innings with four strikeouts, while senior Lucas Favretto pitched three innings with a pair of strikeouts. Deitch went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and a stolen base, while Lewallen went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Ruyle tallied a base hit, while sophomore Nick Kriebs stole two bases and scored a run. Calmette scored a run, while senior Jordan Viramontes, junior Dominik Hidalgo, sophomore Bobby Milton and Rodriguez each walked once.
