The La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation, a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to raising money each year for La Cañada Flintridge public schools, is beginning its spring phone campaign. LCFEF volunteer directors will man the phones to make the case for community members to give, or give more, to the 2016-17 LCFEF annual fund supporting local schools. Once again, local real estate company Dilbeck has generously offered the use of their offices for the effort.
For the past several years, the La Cañada Flintridge community has risen to the challenge of raising in excess of $2 million annually in support of our schools in light of chronic under-funding of public education by the state of California. This community generosity allows the district to retain teaching positions and smaller class sizes in grades K-6 and in 9th grade English and math.
Foundation funds also provide for 7/8 electives and after-school writing and math tutoring; district-wide technology upgrades, improvements, equipment and teacher training; high school college and guidance counselors; as well as its long-standing weekly elementary school art, drama and music program.
Public school families are asked to donate $2,500 each to keep these offerings in places affording kids access to those “wow” moments that make our public schools exceptional. Donor appreciation yard signs will be distributed beginning May 21. Signs will be displayed in the yards of donors who have contributed a total of $500 throughout the year to the fund.
