Kiwanis Club Hosts Clergy Recognition Day June 14

Sister Carolyn McCormack

Kiwanis of La Cañada will host Clergy Recognition Day on Wednesday, June 14, honoring Sister Carolyn McCormack of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy.
A native San Franciscan, McCormack has come to enjoy and appreciate life in beautiful Southern California. She attended elementary and high school in San Francisco. After a work experience with the Southern Pacific Railroad, she entered religious life with the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose, pursuing her bachelor’s from Holy Names University and her master’s from the University of San Francisco. She had spent most of her religious life in Northern California until being assigned to Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in 2003.
McCormack has been an elementary and high school teacher and has served 10 years on her congregation’s Leadership Team. She is in her 14th year as president at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy. Catholic education is her life’s work. She serves as president of the Dominican Association of Secondary Schools in the U.S., enjoys serving as vice moderator for the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council and appreciates the opportunity to sit on Holy Family South Pasadena’s School Board. She is an avid reader, loves being outdoors, is energized by being with people and loves to engage with others around prayer and scripture.
“Leadership at FSHA is a joy for me. I find life and energy in our young women and in our entire Flintridge Sacred Heart community. What a blessing to be called to serve in such a beautiful place — in every sense of that word,” she said.
The event will take place at noon at Descanso Gardens Van De Kamp Hall, 1418 Descanso Drive. Lunch is free to clergy and faith leaders and costs $15 for guests. For those attending, RSVP to Maureen Bond at (818) 488-4332 by Friday, June 9.
