Youth Baseball Team Wins 2nd Tourney

The La Cañada Flintridge Pinto 8 Spartans overcame a slow start and won three consecutive games to capture the Balboa Bay Resort Classic championship in Newport Beach last weekend.
It is the second tournament title for the Spartans, whose showing at the Balboa Bay Resort Classic was the best of any La Cañada Flintridge team.
The Spartan offense led the way with 23 runs in the final three games. At the top of the order Trevor Rivas and Chase Regan each reached base safely six times to set the table for the Spartan bombers. Nick Pieper, Finn Flower-Hogan and Taylor Parrille were able to capitalize and knocked in multiple runs apiece. Jack Harlan, Skyler Henry, Donovan Udell and Scotty Burns gave the defense fits with their base running, each reaching safely and scoring runs without the benefit of a hit.
Defensively, Benji Geller was a vacuum at second base and Austin Loughrin overcame a finger injury to make two crucial catches in right field during the deciding championship game. Fritz Phillips was a horse on the mound, pitching six shutout innings in the tournament.
The Spartans will try to make it three tournaments in a row this weekend down in Montrose.
