Paradise Canyon Elementary School’s science night topic was natural disasters. Before the presentation, parents and students enjoyed pizza and went to three simulated disaster stations. Using toothpicks and mini-marshmallows, students built structures and then put them on a large tray of Jell-O to see if they withstood the simulated movement of an earthquake. They also made erupting volcanoes and simulated tornadoes with a jar of water and glitter. With everyone’s interest piqued, guest speaker Kristin Blomstrom from Parsons Engineering discussed natural disaster preparation, and what to do in the event of one and the aftermath.
