LCHS Student Arrested for Alleged Threats

A La Cañada High School student was arrested Tuesday night for allegedly making criminal threats, authorities said.
The male student, who is a minor, was arrested away from the school, booked at the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station and transported to juvenile hall in Los Angeles, according to Sgt. Don Knight.
There is no current threat to campus, Knight said.
“Apparently, he made threats through other students, who basically reported them,” Knight said. “They got to us and it’s still an ongoing investigation.”
Knight said sheriff’s officials went to the boy’s house and now are following up with detectives to figure out how credible the alleged threats — which Knight said were not made recently — might have been.
“I believe in this case, just with what’s going on, more people are coming forward,” Knight said.
“This guy has basically said that [a threat] in the past, so we ultimately got the information and we investigated and determined he did, in fact, make some criminal threats.”
In an email to parents sent Wednesday afternoon, La Cañada Unified School District Superintendent Wendy Sinnette said district and site administration worked with law enforcement in its investigation.
“LCUSD’s concurrent investigation of this matter will serve us in recommending to the Governing Board full disciplinary action to ensure the continued safety and security of students, staff and our schools,” Sinnette wrote.
“We are being vigilant in monitoring the safety and security of students and staff and taking immediate and appropriate measures, both proactively and in response to any dynamic situation,” she continued.
Knight said law enforcement is fielding more reports of threats since incidents like the shooting at Parkland, Florida, where 17 people were killed in February.
“We’re getting a lot more people reporting any kind of threat, which is good,” Knight said.
“Unfortunately, we have some kids, even if they may not be serious, who can’t be making those threats.”
