Cars Stolen After Locker Thefts, Authorities Say

Local law enforcement personnel continue to search for a woman they allege broke into a pair of lockers at local gyms to take personal belongings, including car keys that she used to steal both victims’ cars for a short time before returning the vehicles to locations near where they’d been parked when she took them.

Authorities are searching for the woman pictured in connection with the burglarizing of lockers and the theft of vehicles at the Crescenta-Cañada YMCA and 24 Hour Fitness location in Glendale on June 29.

“[She’s] confused about how Uber works,” joked City Councilman Greg Brown when the topic came up at a recent meeting.
“I can’t make this stuff up,” Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Capt. Chris Blasnek replied.
The first incident occurred at about 11 a.m. on June 29 at the Crescenta-Cañada YMCA. The second took place not long afterward, at around 2 p.m. at the 24 Hour Fitness on Brand Boulevard in Glendale.
According to an incident report from the Sheriff’s Department and a news release by the Glendale Police Department, the woman is identified as 28 to 45 years old, with dyed blond hair and a medium build. She was wearing a black sport band on her left forearm, a sleeveless white blouse, torn blue jeans and white shoes.
In the LCF incident, the suspect allegedly broke into a locker secured with a combination lock while the victim was working out and took her car keys, house keys, driver’s license and insurance card. When the victim discovered those items missing, she informed the YMCA’s staff, a member of which escorted her to the parking lot, where they discovered her Toyota Corolla backed into a different parking stall than the one where it was previously parked.
According to the sheriff’s report, surveillance video showed the suspect roaming the parking lot before entering a vehicle and driving away. The victim’s property was not located, according to the sheriff’s report.
Later that day, the suspect allegedly committed another locker burglary at 24 Hour Fitness, where a victim reportedly placed a gym bag and other personal belongings inside a locker and secured it with a combination lock. When the victim returned, the lock was removed and the property was missing, according to Glendale police.
The Glendale victim’s vehicle also was missing temporarily before being recovered in a nearby parking lot. The suspect allegedly used the victim’s credit card at Home Depot, where surveillance footage was recorded; those images were made public last week.
“I almost didn’t believe it,” Blasnek said. “I thought maybe it was a friend dispute, but one hour later that same person, on video, did it at the 24 Hour Fitness in Glendale, and did the exact same thing with someone’s car and brought it back. It’s still grand theft auto, because she took it without the owner’s consent.
“It’s a strange, strange case, and we have great video, so I’m sure we’ll have her in custody.”
Anyone with information regarding either incident is encouraged to call Glendale Detective Abe Chung at (818) 548-2097.
