Spartans Place 3rd in Burbank Tournament

The La Cañada High School varsity girls’ volleyball team placed third in the Burbank Tournament last Saturday.
The Spartans (10-4 overall record) played seven matches and finished with a 5-2 record. La Cañada defeated Culver City in two sets to bring home the third-place trophy. The squad also recorded victories over Sherman Oaks Buckley, Burbank, Mission Hills Alemany and Los Angeles Immaculate Heart. LC suffered setbacks against Huntington Beach twice in the tourney.
La Cañada will travel to Los Angeles today to take on Immaculate Heart in a nonleague match at 5:30 p.m. The Spartans will play their home opener against Glendora on Monday, Sept. 9, at 3:30 p.m.

The Tologs edged one of the best teams in the area in five sets, 25-21, 20-25, 25-13, 23-25, 16-14, in a nonleague match at the FSHA gymnasium on Tuesday.
Peyton Dejardin led Flintridge Sacred Heart with 30 kills, 11 digs and two aces, and Emma Willingham added 15 kills. Ellie Lund recorded 51 assists, eight digs and two aces, Katherine Collins had four kills and six blocks, Emmie Barnard finished with two kills and four blocks, Caitlin Du recorded 10 digs, Abby Kim had three aces and Ferryn Drake contributed one kill.

Flintridge Sacred Heart (5-0 overall) will travel to South Pasadena for a nonleague match this Friday, Sept. 6, at 5 p.m. The Tologs open Mission League play at Studio City Havard-Westlake on Monday, Sept. 9, at 6 p.m.

The Rebels kept their perfect record intact with three-game sweep, 25-11, 25-14, 25-10, over visiting Alhambra in a nonleague match on Tuesday.

Flintridge Prep improved to 7-0 on the season, including a Prep League victory over Burbank Providence. The Rebels will host Temple City in a nonleague contest this Friday, Sept. 6, at 4:30 p.m.

Prior to the Burbank Tournament, the Spartans traveled to Newhall and took on Hart High in a nonleague match last week.
Freshman Nikki Hughes recorded a team-high 12 kills and led La Cañada to a sweep, 25-19, 25-12, 25-18. Maya White added seven kills, 15 digs, four aces and two blocks.
Olivia Toland tallied six kills and three aces, Claire Kevorkian finished with five kills and two blocks, Claire Saydah had 16 digs, Ally Budde recorded two kills and three blocks, and Alex Gates had 10 digs, 32 assists and one kill.
