I hope that this letter finds everyone well during this most difficult time. As the community and L.A. County start to reopen certain businesses and recreational areas, I thought it would be helpful to share some information about the processes which are being followed.
The city of La Cañada Flintridge is one of 88 cities in Los Angeles County. Of those 88 cities, 86 cities, including La Cañada Flintridge, are under the control of Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (DPH) and rely on the expertise of the county health officials. This means that DPH is our city’s Public Health Agency.
The original “Shelter at Home Order” was issued by DPH on March 19. La Cañada Flintridge is required under law to follow those orders. The city does not have the authority to create new or altered rules which would lessen the county orders.
Last Friday, the county issued new orders which allowed some businesses to re-open under certain rules and guidelines. The county also allowed the re-opening of trails. Thus, the trails in La Cañada Flintridge are now open to enjoy. Please keep social distancing and wear a face covering.
We would like for all our businesses to reopen as quickly as possible. However, we need to do so in a safe and prudent manner. All our businesses play a critical role in our community and provide services which are needed. Please know that we are in constant communication with county health officials and county leaders working with them to implement the reopening of these important businesses.
As we move forward over the next few months, the city will make every effort to keep our residents and businesses advised of progress and steps moving forward. DPH will continue to modify and change the orders but only when it is safe to do so.
