La Cañada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Association is going to have a “do-over year” after the 2021 annual Rose Parade was canceled because of the pandemic.
This, said LCFTRA President Michael Davitt, will give the local nonprofit organization some time to regroup and double down efforts to engineer the whimsical float called “Who Says We Can’t?” that will showcase in the 133rd Rose Parade after the 108th Rose Bowl Game on Jan. 1, 2022.
Typically, right after the parade on New Year’s Day, the LCFTRA hits the ground running to plan for the next year, and this year will be no different, Davitt noted.
“This year we have picked up right where we left off and have already started planning, designing and building for the 2022 Rose Parade. As we try to keep things normal, this year will be a little different. This is a ‘do-over’ year,” Davitt said in a message posted to the LCFTRA’s Facebook page.
All will remain the same as it was planned for 2021, he explained: the theme of the parade is the same, as are the float designs and the Pasadena Tournament of Roses leadership team.
“This plan puts our organization in the best position to meet the challenges of the future. We are re-tooling and making LCFTRA poised to tackle the obstacles for this year and for years to come,” he said. “We are an established organization, which means we honor our past while also building for the future; 2021 will be a better year for our organization and hopefully for everyone. As we put 2020 in the rear window, we look forward to 2021. But 2020 will not be forgotten, as the impacts it has had on the world and our community will be with us for years to come. Hopefully our float and parade in 2022 will bring a small amount of happiness to everyone.”
