The La Cañada High School girls’ basketball team made 12 three-pointers, opened up an early double-digit lead and cruised 52-27 nonleague victory at Glendale High last Thursday.
Spartans’ guard Bethany Co hit seven three-pointers to finish as the game’s leading scorer with 21 points.
LCHS outscored the Nitros 18-8 in the first quarter behind Co’s five successful threes.
Teammates Mia Oakley-Stilson and Lauren Scoville played well in the paint, combining for 12 of the Spartans’ 14 points in the second quarter.
Glendale, meanwhile, mustered only 15 points in the first half. The Nitros (0-2 record) made just 10 field goals throughout the entire game.
Glendale did show some life late in the second half with the game well out of reach. The Nitros held La Cañada to just six points in the fourth quarter thanks to numerous turnovers caused by their guards’ active hands and ability to cut off passing lanes.
La Cañada (2-0 overall) continued its winning ways on Saturday with a 52-32 victory over visiting Maranatha of Pasadena.
Scoville led the Spartans with 22 points and 14 rebounds, five steals and four assists, and Co added 16 points, four assists and four steals. Kylie Sears netted six points, Oakley-Stilson finished with five points and five steals, and Lily Khayat contributed two points. Freshman Talia Miyamoto added one point.
