LCFEF Honors Educators of the Year

First published in the June 9 print issue of the Outlook Valley Sun.

Jason Stone and Julia Lee Hwang were recently named the 2021-22 Rose Harrington Educators of the Year.
This honor was established in 2002 by a bequest to the La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation Endowment Fund from the estate of local resident and teacher Rose Harrington.
Harrington’s wishes were that outstanding LCUSD educators be selected each year by a committee appointed by the LCFEF Endowment Fund’s trustees to receive a $5,000 cash award. She wanted educators chosen whose contributions in the classroom often exceed expectations, consuming personal time and energy.

Since the initial honor was awarded, Harrington’s gift has grown to give out two awards in the past two years, and the award amount has been adjusted for inflation to $7,300 per recipient.
Stone is an instrumental music teacher at La Cañada High School, and Hwang is a 3rd-grade teacher at Palm Crest Elementary.
Nominations are open to the public and take place each year. For more information and to see past recipients, visit lcfef.org/Rose-Harrington-Award.
