LCHS, FSHA, Flintridge Prep Collect League Wins

The La Cañada High School varsity girls’ volleyball team dominated host Blair High in Pasadena, 25-7, 25-5, 25-5, in its Rio Hondo League opener Tuesday night.
The Spartans previously played seven matches over two days at the Whittier Cardinal Classic, finishing as runners-up after falling to Los Alamitos, 25-18, 25-23, in the title contest on Saturday. Before the loss, La Cañada defeated Orange Lutheran High, 26-24, 26-24, Bishop Amat High of La Puente, 25-22, 29-27, and Windward High of Los Angeles, 25-15, 25-12, on the second day of the tournament.
LCHS swept its competition on the opening day of the tournament, dominating Fullerton, 25-10, 25-11; Montebello, 25-8, 25-13; and Segerstorm High of Santa Ana, 25-6, 25-9.
The Spartans previously picked up a nonleague sweep over visiting La Salle College Preparatory of Pasadena, 25-16, 25-10, 25-8, last Thursday. Junior Tatum Purdy recorded team-high marks with six aces and 19 assists while adding seven digs and one kill, and senior Nikki Hughes tallied a team-high 14 kills. Junior Haley Clark collected six kills, eight digs and two aces, freshman Vani Tatoulian produced five kills, two blocks and two assists, and senior Rachael Salit registered three kills, seven digs and one ace. Junior Chloe Nussbaum posted a team-high nine digs and five assists, sophomore Katie McGuinness finished with one kill and two assists, and sophomore Danica Eggleston had one assist
La Cañada (14-3 overall, 1-0 in league) will host Temple City in its second league match Thursday, Sept. 15, at 4:45 p.m., followed by a crucial league matchup against visiting South Pasadena on Tuesday, Sept. 20.

The Tologs won their Angeles League opener at Immaculate Heart High in Los Angeles, 20-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-11, on Monday, as senior Nikki Garriola picked up team-high marks in aces (four) and digs (17) while adding nine kills and two blocks.
Junior Luisa Madrigal collected a team team-high 10 kills and a pair of digs, while senior Emily Smith amassed a team-high 20 assists, five digs and two aces. Sophomore Piper Scherbert posted seven kills and one block, junior Veronica Udell registered six kills and three blocks, and senior Keira Limon produced five kills, two aces, two blocks and three digs. Junior Lindsey Du finished with 12 digs and three assists, while sophomore Ally Du recorded eight assists, four digs and two aces. Senior Charlotte Taylor tallied three aces and six digs, and senior Erin Carney had one block.
FSHA (5-4 overall, 1-0 in league) lost a nonleague matchup against visiting Marlborough High of Los Angeles last Thursday, 20-25, 25-17, 25-20, 14-25, 15-9, as Garriola amassed a team-high 14 kills, 13 digs, three aces and two blocks. Junior Luisa Madrigal tallied three kills, four blocks, nine digs and one ace, and Scherbert notched three kills, three blocks and two digs. Limon posted two kills, two blocks and four digs, while Udell registered one kill, one ace and four digs. Ally Du produced 10 assists, six digs and two aces, Lindsey Du finished with 14 digs, three assists and one ace, and Smith recorded eight assists, six digs and two aces. Taylor collected three digs and one ace, while Carney had two digs.
Flintridge Sacred Heart will compete in the two-day Durango Fall Classic this weekend, with the first matchup on Friday, Sept. 16.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

The Wolves collected a Prep League sweep over visiting Providence High of Burbank last Friday, 25-10, 25-15, 25-18, as Abbie Callaway led with 14 kills and six aces.
Jessica Powell posted 10 kills and a block, Amelia Bechthold tallied seven kills and a block, and Lucy Liu produced five aces and a pair of blocks. Marissa Halley and Jaleen Tseng each finished with eight digs and three aces.
The Wolves (9-4 overall, 2-3 in league) previously lost a league matchup at Westridge School in Pasadena, 25-19, 25-16, 24-26, 25-21 the day before, as Callaway racked up 23 kills and nine digs. Powell had eight kills and one block, Marissa Halley recorded 18 digs and five aces, and Ashlyn Nam notched five aces.
Flintridge Prep will travel to Rio Hondo Prep in Arcadia on Thursday, Sept. 15, for a league match at 4:45 p.m.
