The St. Francis High School varsity boys’ water polo team placed third out of 22 teams in the two-day Western Tournament last weekend, finishing with a 3-1 record after routing Trabuco Hills High of Mission Viejo, 14-7, in its final tournament game on Saturday.
Senior Jason Alietti scored seven goals while senior Jozef Gutierrez collected three goals. Senior Josh Li scored twice while sophomores Nick Karamarian and Cooper Klosterman each had one goal.
SFHS was edged earlier on Saturday by Elsinore High of Wildomar, 10-9. Alietti scored a team-high four goals, Jozef Gutierrez tallied three goals, and senior Noel Gutierrez and Karamarian each had one goal.
St. Francis picked up its second tournament win on Friday after narrowly beating Chino Hills, 14-12, as Alietti amassed nine goals. Jozef Gutierrez and Karamarian each recorded two goals, while Noel Gutierrez scored once.

The Golden Knights opened the tournament by dominating Royal High of Simi Valley, 14-4, last Friday, as Noel Gutierrez collected four goals. Alietti and Jozef Gutierrez each scored three goals, while Karamarian, Li and sophomore Esai Somilleda each tallied one goal.
SFHS previously lost a nonleague game against Crescenta Valley, 11-7, last Thursday, after dominating Burroughs High in Burbank, 18-5, last Tuesday.
St. Francis (7-8 overall, 0-2 in league) will continue Mission League action at Notre Dame High in Sherman Oaks on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 4 p.m.
FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves have been idle since competing in the two-day Malibu Tournament on Sept. 9 and 10, finishing fifth overall.
Flintridge Prep (10-2 overall) will host La Salle College Preparatory of Pasadena in a Prep League game on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 3:30 p.m.
