Candidate Deserves Apology from Anonymous Letter Writer

First published in the Nov. 10 print issue of the Outlook Valley Sun.

Last week I wrote about a letter which was sent anonymously to supporters of Octavia Thuss. She called me to thank me for speaking out, even though I do not know her. She admitted that the letter scared her a little, so if it was meant to intimidate, it succeeded.
I think I know who the woman was who sent it. I think a lot of folks know. But is she proud enough to own up to her letter? If she thinks she was justified, why retain her anonymity?
I am sure that Octavia will have the courage to serve, and hope she will be elected. All of us owe her and the other candidates thanks for caring enough to run, and even more for putting up with this nonsense. Whether elected or not, someone owes Octavia and the community an apology.
