City Prepares for Annual Winter Field Closures

First published in the Nov. 17 print issue of the Outlook Valley Sun.

Each winter, the city of LCF closes its athletic fields for regular maintenance and recovery from extensive use. The annual closure coincides with the La Cañada Unified School District’s winter break.
Due to a major field restoration project this year, the La Cañada High School Junior Varsity and Varsity Athletic Fields will have extended closure periods. This year’s closures will take place as follows:
• La Cañada High School Varsity —
Nov. 28-Jan. 9
• Cornishon — Dec. 16-Jan. 3
• FIS Lower — Dec. 16-Jan. 3
• FIS Upper — Dec. 16-Jan. 3
• La Cañada Elementary — Dec. 16-Jan. 3
• Latter-day Saints — Dec. 16-Jan. 3
• Palm Crest Elementary — Dec. 16-Jan. 3
• Paradise Canyon Elementary — Dec. 16-Jan. 3
• Cañada High School Oak Grove —
Dec. 16-Jan. 3
• La Cañada High School Junior Varsity — Dec. 16-Jan. 27
During the closures, the fields are not available for any usage (organized or “pick-up” use). Additionally, based upon possible inclement weather the field closure times may start earlier or be extended should the fields be too wet for usage.
Any person or group using a field without a permit will be cited by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department for violation of Chapter 5.24.055 of the city’s Municipal Code.
