First published in the Dec. 1 print issue of the Outlook Valley Sun.

The La Cañada High School varsity girls’ soccer team blanked host Crescenta Valley High in La Crescenta, 3-0, in its nonleague regular-season opener on Monday.
After a slow first half, the Spartans broke the game wide open with goals in the 42nd, 53rd and 65th minutes.
La Cañada got on the board within the first three minutes of the second half when senior Cat Mispagel scored.
Just over 10 minutes later, sophomore Hailee Takao found the back of the net to give the Spartans a sizable 2-0 advantage late in the game.
Senior Ria Mandal, whose shot on goal was blocked by the Crescenta Valley goalie in the 20th, scored the third and final LCHS goal to help secure a win.
La Cañada maintained possession for a majority of the match, as junior goalie Montana LaBarge saw little action aside from the final 10 minutes when she registered a pair of saves in the 70th and 75th.
