LC’s 4×100 Relay Team Breaks School Record

Individuals from the La Cañada, Flintridge Prep and St. Francis high schools’ track and field teams recently competed in the CIF-Southern Section finals.

LA CAÑADA

The Spartans varsity girls’ and boys’ teams recently competed in the Division III finals, with the LCHS girls finishing in fifth place in the team standings.
The relay team of Kaitlyn Creighton, Sarina Parks, Grace Paton and Katie McGuinness placed third in the girls’ 4×100 and broke the school record with a 48.79 time.
The 4×400 relay team of Katelyn Matarese, McGuinness, Paton and Parks posted the second-fastest time in school history and the fastest in the last 40 years to finish as the divisional runner-up with a 3:56.06 time.
Maya DeBrouwer was the 3,200-meter runner-up with a 10:36.08 time. Matarese placed fifth in the 1,600 with a 5:05.40 time while also finishing sixth in the 800 with a 2:16.81 time.
Brittany Rivas broke the school record in the 300 hurdles to finish seventh with a 46.99 time.
McGuinness (58.03) and Parks took third and eighth, respectively, in the girls’ 400. Erin Makhanian (10-03.00) was eighth in the girls’ pole vault.
In the boys’ competition, LC’s Steven Miketta (12-09.00) was fifth in the pole vault.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

The Wolves varsity teams recently competed in the Division IV finals. The Prep boys tied for 23rd with six points while the girls tied for 40th with three points. Katharina Zirn (35-04.00) was third in the girls’ shot put while William Bigby (50.93) was sixth in the boys’ 400.

ST. FRANCIS

The Golden Knights varsity team recently competed in the Division III boys’ finals and finished tied for ninth with 23 points as Clint Geryak was the pole vault runner-up with a 14-09.00 mark. Luke Metcalf (4:15.55) and Sam Franco (4:15.97) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 1,600.
Hayden Owen (9:25.42) and Franco (9:29.97) finished sixth and eighth, respectively, in the 3,200. Metcalf (1:59.07) was eighth in the 800 while the relay team of Tyler Cofre, Henry Foley, Aidan Phillips and Drushun Phillips finished ninth in the 4×100 with a 43.54 time.
