The Pasadena Symphony and Pops ushered in its summer season with its “Divas Through the Decades” concert at the Los Angeles Arboretum on June 24.
There were thousands of people in attendance to watch principal Pops conductor Michael Feinstein and the Pasadena Symphony perform pieces made famous by black female artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole, Tina Turner and Billie Holiday. Soloists Catherine Russell, Freda Payne and Nicole Henry performed hits by the aforementioned divas.
