Unbeaten Spartans Carry Winning Run Into League Opener

The La Cañada High School varsity girls’ tennis team defeated visiting South Pasadena 13-5 in its Rio Hondo League opener on Sept. 21.
In the singles matches, No. 1 Lillian Chamras swept her sets with scores of 6-2, 6-0 and 6-0. No. 2 singles player Jessica Simonian won a pair of sets with scores of 6-3 and 6-4.
On the doubles side, the No. 1 doubles team of Kaylee Thornburgh and Maddison Hunt secured a set with a 6-3 score. Hunt then partnered with Lauren Kim, and the new duo added another 6-3 win. The No. 2 pairing of Christina Seibert and Pauline Hess swept their sets with scores of 6-0, 6-4 and 7-6 (7-3). The No. 3 tandem of Claire Lin and Kate Austin also swept their sets with scores of 6-3, 7-5 and 6-3.
The undefeated Spartans (4-0 overall, 1-0 in league) will visit Monrovia for a league match on Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. before hosting Blair High of Pasadena on Oct. 3.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves continued their undefeated start to the season with a 12-6 nonleague victory over visiting Mark Keppel High of Alhambra on Sept. 22.
In the doubles matches, the No. 1 team of Kaitlyn Lavichant and Sienna Beltz swept with 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0 scores. The No. 2 pairing of Kayla Lee and Nicole Lee contributed with two set wins, 6-2 and 6-1, before alternating with Anika Anant and Vy Pham, who secured a 6-3 victory. The No. 3 tandem of Vanessa Hsu and Kara Choy also won two sets, 6-4 and 6-1.
In the singles competition, No. 1 Kat Zirn won two sets with scores of 6-0 and 6-0. No. 2 Emily Hsiao added another set victory with a score of 6-1, while No. 3 Francesca Cecil secured a set win with a score of 6-0.
Flintridge Prep narrowly defeated visiting Mayfield Senior of Pasadena in games 9-9 (86-75) in a Prep League match on Sept. 21.
In singles action, No. 1 Zirn swept with scores of 6-2, 6-1 and 6-0. No. 2 Hsiao contributed with two set wins by scores of 6-3 and 6-0.
In the doubles category, the No. 1 team of Lavichant and Beltz secured two set wins, 6-2 and 6-2. The No. 2 pairing of Kayla Lee and Nicole Lee added another set victory with a score of 6-3. The No. 3 tandem of Choy and Hsu won a set with a 7-5 score.
The Wolves beat host Westridge School of Pasadena 11-7 in a league match on Sept. 19.
No. 1 Zirn won two sets with 6-2 and 6-0 scores. No. 2 Anant also won two sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-1. No. 3 Hsiao contributed with a 6-0 win.
In doubles action, the No. 1 team of Lavichant and Beltz swept their sets with scores of 6-4, 6-0 and 6-3. The No. 2 pairing of Choy and Hsu added a 6-2 win. The No. 3 duo of Cecil and Nicole Lee won two sets by 6-1 and 6-4 scores.
Flintridge Prep (6-0) will visit Pasadena Polytechnic for a league showdown on Sept. 28 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta in a nonleague match on Sept. 29.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART
The Tologs lost to visiting Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 10-8 in a Mission League match on Sept. 20.
In singles play, No. 1 Madison Wuu won two sets with scores of 6-4 and 6-1. No. 2 Ashley Hurjak added another set win with a score of 6-4.
In the doubles matches, the No. 1 team of Mia Wertheimer and Grace Garrity swept their sets with scores of 6-1, 6-4 and 6-4. The No. 2 pairing of Gabriella Newman and Emma Oakland also won two sets with scores of 7-5 and 6-3.
FSHA was shut out at Marlborough High in Los Angeles 18-0 in its league opener on Sept. 19.
The Tologs (0-7, 0-2) will host Chaminade High of West Hills for a league matchup on Sept. 28 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Harvard-Westlake High on Oct. 2.
