Smith Named MVP as Flintridge Prep Wins Redondo Tournament

The La Cañada High School varsity girls’ basketball team has been on a break since losing to Crean Lutheran High of Irvine in a nonleague game on Nov. 18.
The Spartans will finish competing in the San Marino Tournament this week before hosting Bell Gardens for a nonleague contest on Dec. 7 at 5:30 p.m.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

The Wolves won the Redondo Union Tournament after defeating Liberty High of Bakersfield 53-38 in the championship game on Nov. 25. Sophomore Maddie Smith was named MVP while sophomores Akemi Fu and Pressley Huie each earned all-tournament selections.
Smith racked up 19 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two assists, while freshman Hailey Louie tallied eight points and five rebounds. Freshman Addie Lee, freshman Megan Quoch and Fu each scored six points, while freshman Miya Naruko finished with six rebounds and three points. Huie chipped in three points, while junior Gigi Mastras had two points.
Flintridge Prep lost to St. Paul High 63-58 in a Redondo Tournament game on Nov. 24, as Smith registered 14 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Huie scored 11 points, Fu finished with nine points and six rebounds, and Naruko recorded nine points and four rebounds. Lee chipped in seven points, while Louie and Quoch tallied four points.
The Wolves edged Crean Lutheran High of Irvine 45-44 in a tournament game on Nov. 21, as Maddie Smith racked up 20 points.
Quoch finished with seven points and four rebounds, Huie tallied six points, and Naruko produced five points and three rebounds. Junior Olivia Childs and Louie each registered four rebounds and two points, Fu recorded seven rebounds, and Lee scored three points.
Flintridge Prep opened the regular season and tournament action with a 50-27 victory over Pioneer High of Whittier on Nov. 20, as Smith racked up 15 points, seven rebounds and five steals.
Huie contributed six points and three steals, while Lee scored six points. Naruko finished with five points and three steals, while Quoch and Louie each chipped in five points. Fu recorded seven rebounds, four points and two blocks, Childs tallied six rebounds and two points, and Mastras had two points.
The Wolves (3-1 overall) will open Prep League action by hosting Mayfield Senior of Pasadena on Dec. 1 at 6:30 p.m. before competing in the Bonita Tournament, starting on Dec. 4.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART

The Tologs have also been away from the court since losing to Temple City in a nonleague game on Nov. 17.
FSHA (1-2) did not play a game over the Thanksgiving break. The Tologs returned to action competing in the San Marino Tournament this week. The Tologs will next compete in the Pasadena Polytechnic Tournament from Dec. 6 to 9 before hosting Ramona High of Riverside on Dec. 11.
