LCF Sister Cities Holds Meeting With Spanish Contingent

The fourth annual La Cañada Flintridge Sister Cities Association Joint City Council meeting with sister city Villanueva de la Cañada in Spain took place virtually on Nov. 14.
The meeting was live and translated between English and Spanish by an official interpreter. LCF Mayor Rick Gunter and Villanueva de la Cañada Mayor Luis Partida gave each other warm welcomes and expressed gratitude for the exchanges taking place between the two cities.
A photo montage of the Miradas Art Show was shown, as well as a video presentation of Spanish artist in residence Javier Montesol’s collaboration with La Cañada High School’s art students to create a mural project at LCHS.
The sister city in Spain updated its LCF counterpart about its Space Academy program and provided a video of students hard at work. Pardita took the opportunity to invite two Space Academy JPL scientists Xavier Zapien and Jesse Mendoza to Spain to attend the Space Academy graduation in January.
Pardita also invited eight artists from La Cañada Flintridge to participate in the artist in residence program exchange who have been invited to display their artwork in May in Villanueva de la Cañada. Three of the eight artists attended in LCF and were introduced at the meeting: Anjum Khan, David Morton and Mary Tracy.
The Joint City Council meeting is a testament to the collaboration between the sister cities and the development of new programs in the arts, as well as a continuation of the robust Space Academy program.
