La Cañada Shines at The Classic at Damien

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ basketball team defeated Ponderosa High of Shingle Springs 70-48 to close out Green Division competition at The Classic at Damien on Dec. 30.
Junior Josh Pastor racked up 28 points, four rebounds, three steals and three assists, while junior Josh Proctor posted a double-double with 17 points, 14 rebounds, one block and one assist. Senior captain Jack Reynolds registered 12 points, four rebounds, four assists and one steal, while senior Anders Petersen tallied 10 points, three steals, two blocks, two rebounds and two assists. Senior Matthew Herrick chipped in two points and two rebounds, while junior Maddox Freeman finished with two steals, two assists, one point and one rebound. Senior Spencer Moravec contributed two rebounds, one steal and one assist, while senior Dhilon Gupta had one rebound.
The Spartans secured a 59-39 victory over Grand Terrace in a tournament game on Dec. 29.
Proctor recorded a double-double with 13 points, 13 rebounds, one block and one steal, while Freeman finished with 13 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Reynolds poured in 12 points with eight rebounds, two steals and two assists, while Pastor tallied 10 points, four rebounds, three steals, one block and one assist. Petersen recorded six points, five rebounds, four steals and two assists, junior Saad Bangash scored three points, and junior Julian Morillo chipped in two points, one block and one rebound. Moravec collected two rebounds, while senior Jensen Karlich and Dhilon Gupta each had one rebound.
La Cañada picked up a 59-48 victory over Rancho Dominguez High of Long Beach in a tournament game on Dec. 28.
Pastor registered 19 points, five steals, three rebounds, two assists and one block, Proctor tallied 18 points, four rebounds, two steals, one block and one assist, and Reynolds contributed nine points, three rebounds, three assists and one steal. Freeman produced four points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal, while Moravec chipped in three points and three assists. Petersen recorded three rebounds, two points, two assists and one steal, Morillo finished with three rebounds and two points, and senior Conor Banks notched two points and one assist. Herrick collected two rebounds and one steal, while senior Matthew Plocher had one assist and one rebound. Senior Jaidon Gupta was credited with one assist, junior Diyon Silva had one steal, and senior Shervin Naini and Bangash each had one rebound.
The Spartans lost to Culver City 72-59 in their tournament opener on Dec. 26.
Pastor produced 18 points, four assists, three steals, one block and one rebound, while Petersen contributed 10 points, six rebounds and one assist. Reynolds tallied nine points, two steals, two rebounds and one assist, Freeman recorded nine points, two assists, one steal and one rebound, and Plocher finished with eight points, four rebounds, one steal and one assist. Jaidon Gupta chipped in two points and one rebound, while Morillo registered three rebounds and one point. Herrick was credited with one assist and one rebound, Moravec collected two rebounds, Bangash had one rebound, and Karlich had one assist.
La Cañada (10-9 overall, 2-0 in league) will resume Rio Hondo League play at Monrovia on Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. before traveling to Blair High of Pasadena on Jan. 12.

ST. FRANCIS

St Francis High School sophomore captain Delan Grant tallied six points and five rebounds to help the Golden Knights beat St Bonaventure High in their Holiday Hoopfest finale on Dec 29

The Golden Knights defeated St. Bonaventure High of Ventura 50-36 in their St. Francis Holiday Hoopfest finale on Dec. 29 as junior captain Mazi Mosley registered 13 points, six rebounds and one steal.
Sophomore captain Delan Grant tallied six points, five rebounds and two assists, senior Kennedy Mitchell-Egbo chipped in six points, two rebounds and one assist, and junior Ben O’Connor scored six points. Senior Ethan Childs finished with five points, three rebounds and one steal, junior Noah Henry recorded five points and one rebound, and junior Dyllen Domingo contributed four points, one steal, one rebound and one assist. Junior Joe Hickey produced five rebounds, three points and one assist, while junior Aaron Matthews had five rebounds, two points and two assists.
St. Francis lost to Long Beach Poly in overtime 58-54 in a tournament game on Dec. 28 as Mosley racked up 30 points, eight rebounds and two assists.
Henry finished with seven rebounds and six points, Childs tallied six points, three rebounds and one steal, and Grant chipped in six points and two rebounds. Mitchell-Egbo registered eight rebounds, five points and one steal, while senior Chris Kalachian collected eight rebounds.
Hickey contributed one point, one rebound and one assist, O’Connor had one steal, and Matthews recorded one rebound.
St. Francis secured a 74-63 victory over Pilibos High of Los Angeles in a tournament game on Dec. 27 as Mosley amassed 49 points, nine rebounds, four steals and four assists.
Grant finished with 12 points, three steals, two rebounds and two assists, Hickey registered eight points and three rebounds, and Childs tallied five points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals. Kalachian contributed three rebounds, three assists and one block, Matthews produced two rebounds and two assists, and Domingo was credited with two assists and one rebound. Mitchell-Egbo recorded two rebounds, while junior Ryan Smith had one rebound.
The Golden Knights defeated Menlo School of Atherton 60-57 in their tournament opener on Dec. 26.
Mosley registered 26 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Grant poured in 17 points with four rebounds and one assist.
Childs finished with five points and two rebounds, while Henry tallied five points and one steal. O’Connor scored three points, Matthews recorded four rebounds and two points, and Hickey produced three rebounds and two points. Kalachian and Mitchell-Egbo each contributed two rebounds and one steal, while Domingo had one rebound and one steal.
St. Francis (14-4) will open Mission League action at Crespi High in Encino on Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. before hosting San Gabriel Academy for a nonleague game on Jan. 6.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

Flintridge Prep junior Josh Roberts scored two points to help the Wolves beat San Luis Obispo in a Tory Pines Holiday Classic game on Dec 28

The Wolves edged Wiseburn-Da Vinci High of El Segundo 41-39 in their Tory Pines Holiday Classic finale on Dec. 30 as senior captain Henry Morrison poured in 13 points.
Flintridge Prep lost to Sonora High of La Habra 71-64 in a tournament game on Dec. 29.
Morrison registered 25 points, while junior Lawson Holland tallied 20 points. Senior Noah Willingham scored nine points, while senior captain Will Bigby chipped in five points. Junior Malcolm Cook recorded three points, while sophomore Owen Willingham had two points.
The Wolves secured a 58-53 victory over San Luis Obispo in a tournament game on Dec. 28, as Holland finished with 24 points.
Senior captain Steven Ng contributed 15 points, while Morrison produced 10 points. Bigby chipped in seven points, while junior Josh Roberts scored two points.
Flintridge Prep posted a 62-56 victory over Coronado in its tournament opener on Dec. 27.
Morrison tallied 20 points, while Holland and Bigby each poured in 14 points. Cook recorded eight points, while Noah Willingham tallied six points.
The Wolves (15-3, 2-0) will resume Prep League play at Providence High in Burbank on Jan. 10 at 6:30 p.m. before visiting Pasadena Polytechnic on Jan. 16.
