Flintridge Prep’s Smith Named Tournament MVP

The La Cañada High School varsity girls’ basketball team defeated Gabrielino High of San Gabriel 47-24 in its New Year’s Ball Tournament finale on Dec. 28.
Senior Andrianna Pitsos poured in 15 points with two rebounds, while junior Jennifer Musso recorded 13 points, four assists, three rebounds and one steal. Sophomore Malia Harney tallied seven points, four rebounds and one steal, while sophomore Emma Sengul chipped in five points and one rebound. Junior Sydney Magtoto registered eight rebounds, four steals, three points and one assist, while sophomore Madison Hunt contributed four rebounds, three assists, two points, one steal and one block. Sophomore Talia Miyamoto finished with four rebounds, one point and one assist, junior Alexis Fitzgerald notched one point and one rebound, and junior Ella Magtoto had three rebounds and one block.
The Spartans narrowly lost to Saugus 33-32 in a tournament game on Dec. 28 as Harney registered 13 points, two blocks, two rebounds, one steal and one assist.
Hunt tallied eight points, three rebounds and two steals, Musso contributed six rebounds, five points, five steals, four assists and one block, and Miyamoto chipped in four points, three steals, two rebounds and one assist. Sydney Magtoto and Pitsos each finished with five rebounds, two steals and one block, Sengul had two rebounds and one point, and Ella Magtoto scored one point.
La Cañada suffered a 46-25 loss against Flintridge Prep in a tournament game on Dec. 26.
Harney finished with eight points, one block and one rebound, while Musso tallied six points, four rebounds, one block and one assist. Hunt recorded six rebounds, four points and one block, while Pitsos chipped in three points, one block and one rebound. Miyamoto registered two points, two blocks, two steals, two rebounds and one assist, while Choi scored two points. Sengul collected two rebounds, while Sydney Magtoto was credited with one assist.
The Spartans defeated Maranatha High of Pasadena 49-23 in their tournament opener on Dec. 26.
Harney poured in 12 points with four rebounds, three assists and one block, while Musso finished with 10 points, two assists and one steal. Freshman Olivia Abramian registered six points and four rebounds, while Pitsos tallied six points, two rebounds and one assist. Hunt recorded seven rebounds, five points, three steals, two blocks and two assists, while Miyamoto chipped in five points and three rebounds. Freshman Tessa Choi contributed three points, one steal and one assist, while Ella Magtoto registered two points, one block, one rebound and one assist. Sengul was credited with two assists and one rebound, while freshman Violet Waugh and Sydney Magtoto each had two rebounds.
La Cañada (7-7 overall, 1-1 in league) will resume league play at Monrovia on Jan. 10 at 5:30 p.m. before traveling to Blair High in Pasadena on Jan. 12.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

Flintridge Prep junior Gigi Mastras scored two points to help the Wolves beat Crescenta Valley High in a La Cañada New Years Ball Tournament game on Dec 28

The Wolves defeated Granada Hills Charter 57-40 in their La Cañada New Year’s Ball Tournament finale on Dec. 29. Sophomore Maddie Smith was named tournament MVP while sophomore Akemi Fu earned an all-tournament team selection.
Smith registered 22 points and five rebounds, while Fu poured in 11 points. Freshman Addison Lee scored nine points, while sophomore Pressley Huie recorded six points and five steals. Junior Olivia Childs finished with four points and three rebounds, freshman Miya Naruko chipped in three points, and freshman Megan Quoch had two points.
Flintridge Prep posted a 63-46 victory over Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta in a tournament game on Dec. 28.
Smith racked up 24 points, Fu finished with 15 points and six rebounds, and Quoch contributed 12 points. Lee and Naruko each chipped in three points, while junior Gigi Mastras, freshman Hailey Louie and Huie each scored two points.
The Wolves secured a 63-36 victory over Hart High of Newhall in a tournament game on Dec. 27.
Smith produced 21 points and five rebounds, while Fu contributed 14 points. Huie tallied eight points, Lee scored seven points, and Quoch recorded six rebounds and five points. Louie and Naruko each registered three points, while Childs had five rebounds and two points.

Smith tallied 18 points and five steals, Fu posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Huie finished with nine points, five steals and five rebounds. Lee and Quoch each scored four points, while Louie and Mastras each had two points.
The Wolves (16-1, 4-0) will resume Prep League play at Providence High in Burbank on Jan. 10 at 5 p.m. before traveling to Westridge School in Pasadena on Jan. 11.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy sophomore Isabella Hagobian and the Tologs finished the Sacred Heart Tournament with a 3 1 record

The Tologs competed in the Sacred Heart Tournament last week and finished with a 3-1 record. FSHA posted wins against Arroyo High of El Monte, 54-42, Duarte, 46-20, and Los Angeles Sacred Heart of Jesus High, 40-36, while losing to White County of Sparta, Tennessee, 76-19, in its tournament finale. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
Flintridge Sacred Heart (9-7) will open Sunshine League play at Louisville High in Woodland Hills on Jan. 4 at 6 p.m. before visiting Pasadena for a nonleague game on Jan. 8.
