Spartans Suffer Nonleague Loss, Wolves Extend Win Streak

The La Cañada High School varsity girls’ basketball team lost to visiting Ramona Convent High of Alhambra 43-36 in a nonleague game on Jan. 20 as sophomore Malia Harney poured in 16 points with eight rebounds, two steals and one block.
Sophomore Madison Hunt finished with seven points, five rebounds, four blocks, four steals and four assists, while junior Sydney Magtoto registered six points, three steals, three rebounds and one assist. Sophomore Emma Sengul tallied four points, four rebounds, one steal and one assist, senior Isabella Chividjian chipped in two points, two assists, one block and one rebound, and senior Talia Miyamoto recorded two rebounds and one point. Junior Ella Magtoto collected two rebounds and one steal, while junior Jennifer Musso had one rebound.
The Spartans secured a 52-34 Rio Hondo League victory at Temple City on Jan. 19.
Musso poured in 19 points with six rebounds, six assists and two steals, while Harney finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and one block. Hunt registered nine points, three rebounds, one block and one assist, Sengul tallied nine points, two steals and two rebounds, and senior Andrianna Pitsos recorded eight points, four rebounds and one steal. Sydney Magtoto contributed four rebounds, two points and two assists, while junior Alexis Fitzgerald chipped in two points and two rebounds. Miyamoto produced four rebounds and one point, while Ella Magtoto collected three rebounds.
La Cañada picked up a 53-28 league victory over visiting San Marino on Jan. 17, as Musso registered 16 points, seven rebounds, five steals and three assists.
Sengul tallied eight points and one steal, Pitsos finished with seven points, four steals, two rebounds, one block and one assist, and Sydney Magtoto recorded seven points, two rebounds, two blocks and one assist. Hunt produced five rebounds, four points, three steals and one assist, while Harney contributed four points, two rebounds, two assists and one block. Freshman Tessa Choi chipped in four points and two steals, while Miyamoto notched three points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal. Fitzgerald had one block and one steal, Ella Magtoto was credited with one block and one rebound, and sophomore Natasha Sadhwani collected one rebound.
The Spartans (12-8 overall, 5-1 in league) will host Monrovia for a league game on Jan. 26 at 5:30 p.m. before hosting Blair High of Pasadena on Jan. 30.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

Flintridge Prep freshman Hailey Louie scored three points to help the Wolves beat Rio Hondo Prep in a Prep League matchup on Jan 19

The Wolves defeated host Rio Hondo Prep in Arcadia 61-35 in a Prep League game on Jan. 19. Sophomore Maddie Smith racked up 23 points and six steals to help the first-place Wolves win their 18th consecutive game and improve to 20-1 overall (8-0 in league).
Sophomore Akemi Fu poured in 10 points, junior Gigi Mastras chipped in seven points, and freshman Megan Quoch recorded nine rebounds, five points and five steals. Sophomore Pressley Huie tallied six assists and four points, while freshman Miya Naruko registered five rebounds and four points. Senior Izzie Chan and freshman Hailey Louie each contributed three points, while junior Olivia Childs had two points.
The Wolves picked up a 76-17 league victory at Polytechnic on Jan. 16.
Smith poured in 22 points with five steals, while Louie registered 14 points and five rebounds. Fu tallied 10 points and five rebounds, while Chan scored nine points. Childs finished with six points and six rebounds, Mastras recorded six points, and Quoch chipped in five points. Naruko produced six assists and four points, while senior Catherine Baldocchi collected six rebounds.
Flintridge Prep will visit Mayfield Senior for a league game on Jan. 25 at 5 p.m. before hosting Polytechnic for its regular-season finale on Feb. 1.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy sophomore Grace Adair poured in 12 points during a Sunshine League matchup against Marymount High on Jan 18

The Tologs lost at Marymount High of Los Angeles 45-38 in a Sunshine League game on Jan. 18.
Sophomore Grace Adair recorded 12 points, while junior Ava Nawrocki tallied nine points. Freshman Emily Petrosyan scored six points, while junior Sophia Astacaan finished with four points. Sophomore Bella Hagobian contributed three points, while senior Isabelle Risha and sophomore Lori Yacoubian each chipped in two points.
FSHA lost to visiting Notre Dame Academy of Los Angeles 50-41 in a league game on Jan. 16, as Petrosyan poured in 15 points.
Risha registered seven points, while Adair and Nawrocki each produced five points. Astacaan and Hagobian each scored four points, while Yacoubian had one point.
Flintridge Sacred Heart (10-11, 0-4) will visit Marymount High in Los Angeles for a league game on Jan. 26 at 5 p.m. before hosting Immaculate Heart High of Los Angeles on Jan. 30.
