Boys’ Volleyball: La Cañada Sweeps Providence in Nonleague Matchup

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ volleyball team swept visiting Providence High of Burbank, 25-18, 25-18, 25-15, in a nonleague match on Feb. 23.
Junior Quest Swan finished with seven kills, seven digs and one ace, while junior Jacob Que registered eight digs, six kills, six assists and two aces. Senior Zach Evans tallied five kills, one block and one assist, senior Parker Petroc recorded four kills, one ace and one dig, and senior Mason O’Brien chipped in three kills and two blocks. Sophomore Riley Vencatachellum contributed two kills, one ace, one block, one assist and one dig, while sophomore Tyler Chua produced three digs, two kills and one block. Senior Jared Yang racked up 15 assists, seven digs and three aces, junior Aidan Wei was credited with four assists and three digs, and sophomore Spencer Saenz had five digs. Sophomore Albert Cho collected one assist and one dig, while junior Jeffrey Hickman and freshman Timmy Huang each had one kill.
The Spartans picked up a four-game season-opening victory at Bishop Amat High in La Puente, 25-22, 27-25, 21-25, 25-21, in a nonleague match on Feb. 20. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
La Cañada (2-0 overall) will visit Chaminade High in West Hills for a nonleague match on Feb. 29 at 5 p.m. before traveling to Flintridge Prep on March 1.


ST. FRANCIS
The Golden Knights competed in the Redondo Tournament last week and finished with a 3-1 record. SFHS swept Torrance High, 25-19, 25-13, and Thousand Oaks, 25-14, 25-20, in a pair of tournament matchups on Feb. 24. St. Francis also swept Quartz Hill, 2-0, but lost to Huntington Beach, 25-16, 25-14, on the first day of tournament play on Feb. 23.
St. Francis suffered a four-game loss against visiting Santa Margarita High of Rancho Santa Margarita on Feb. 22 after picking up a four-game victory against Oak Park, 22-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-16, in its season opener on Feb. 21. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
The Golden Knights (4-2) will visit Eagle Rock High in Los Angeles for a nonleague game on March 4 at 5 p.m. before traveling to San Juan Hills High in San Juan Capistrano on March 5.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves picked up a four-game victory at Glendale, 25-23, 22-25, 25-19, 25-23, in a nonleague match on Feb. 23. Flintridge Prep defeated visiting South Pasadena in four games, 25-23, 26-24, 22-25, 25-9, to secure a season-opening victory on Feb. 21. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
Flintridge Prep (2-0) will visit Mountain View High in El Monte for a nonleague game on Feb. 29 at 4:30 p.m. before hosting La Cañada on March 1.
