Boys’ Tennis: La Cañada Fends Off St. Francis

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ tennis team defeated visiting St. Francis 17-1 in a nonleague match on Feb. 23.
The Spartans received sweeps in singles play from No. 1 Justin Son (6-2, 6-2, 6-0) and No. 3 Seth Lindenfeld (6-3, 6-0, 6-2), while No. 2 Konan Sahara won a pair of sets with scores of 6-0 and 6-1.
The No. 2 doubles team of Enzo Lee and Blake Chang secured a sweep with a trio of 6-0 wins, while the No. 3 team of Isaac Lai and Aaron Pan swept with scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1. The No. 1 tandem of Spencer Moravec and David Lee won two sets with scores of 6-0 and 6-1. Jonah Stritmatter alternated with Lee, and the new duo featuring Moravec added a 6-1 victory.
The Spartans suffered a 13-5 nonleague loss at Peninsula High of the Rolling Hills Estates on Feb. 21.
No. 1 Sahara won a set, 6-0, while No. 3 Lindenfeld won a set, 6-1. The No. 1 doubles team of Moravec and Lee won, and the No. 2 tandem of Cayden Chang and Blake Chang each won a set with a 6-2 score. Meanwhile, the No. 3 duo of Pan and Lai won a set, 6-1.
La Cañada (1-1 overall) will visit Temple City for a Rio Hondo League match on March 12 at 4 p.m. before hosting Blair High of Pasadena on March 15.

ST. FRANCIS

The Golden Knights suffered a 17-1 nonleague loss at La Cañada on Feb. 23 as No. 3 Armen Balikyan-Bekian won a set, 6-2.
St. Francis (0-3) will visit Sherman Oaks Notre Dame for a nonleague match on Feb. 29 at 2 p.m. before hosting Bishop Amat High of La Puente on March 4.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

The Wolves secured a narrow 10-8 nonleague victory at Buckley School in Sherman Oaks on Feb. 23.
No. 1 Stanton Nico swept with scores of 6-4, 7-5 and 6-0, while No. 2 Sieben Jeremy also swept with 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0 scores. No. 3 Cabrera Ray won a pair of sets with identical 6-1 victories, while the No. 2 doubles team of Shivaram Finley and Logan Wu won two sets with scores of 6-1 and 6-2.
Flintridge Prep (2-1) will visit La Salle College Preparatory in Pasadena for a nonleague match on March 4 at 3 p.m. before visiting La Cañada on March 5.
