Softball: Spartans Rebound in League With Convincing Win

The La Cañada High School varsity softball team overwhelmed host South Pasadena with a 15-3 victory in a Rio Hondo League game on March 8. Junior Bentley Labrecque, who went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run at the plate, pitched a five-inning complete game to earn the win. She struck out three batters while allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk.
Senior captain Elle Leckrone went 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs, four RBIs, three runs and a walk, while freshman Riley Labrecque went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs. Sophomore Ava Perry went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs, junior Grace Rocco registered a double, two RBIs, a run and a stolen base, and senior captain Ashley Lovejoy contributed a triple and a run. Sophomore Laila Kazazian produced a hit, two RBIs, a run and a stolen base, while freshman Lesley Milton recorded a hit, an RBI, a run and a stolen base. Senior captain Mia Salardino tallied a hit and a run, while juniors Aubrey Wurm and Holly Hong each scored once.
The Spartans narrowly lost at Monrovia 3-2 in their league opener on March 5.
Bentley Labrecque pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts and no walks, while Leckrone went 3-for-3 with a pair of solo home runs and a double. Riley Labrecque and Lovejoy each tallied a base hit, while Perry and Salardino each walked once.
La Cañada (5-5-1 overall, 1-1 in league) will visit San Marino for a league game on March 15 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy on March 19.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves opened their Prep League campaign with a 9-4 loss at Mayfield Senior in Pasadena on March 8 as junior Elise Fong pitched a complete game with two strikeouts.
Junior Sienna Liston went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a run, a stolen base and a walk, senior Asta Uziel went 2-for-4 with two runs, and sophomore Mary Sinclair registered a triple, two RBIs and a walk. Senior Ava Burlingame produced a hit and an RBI, sophomore Emma Carmack recorded a hit and a run, and senior Alex Von Thaden tallied a base hit.
Flintridge Prep (6-1, 0-1) will host Westridge School of Pasadena for a league game on March 15 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Providence High of Burbank on March 27.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART
The Tologs overwhelmed Golden Valley High of Santa Clarita with a 9-0 victory in a Shapiro Classic game on March 9. Senior Meaghan Coyle, who went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run at the plate, pitched four scoreless innings with six strikeouts.
Sophomore Juliette Smith went 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and a run, while junior Ava Nawrocki went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Freshman Jayne Bender went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, while senior Megan Milton recorded a double, two RBIs, two runs and a walk. Junior Gianna Candelora contributed a hit, an RBI and a run, senior Abi Blea produced a hit, an RBI and a run, and junior Alanna McCann tallied a base hit.
FSHA secured a narrow 4-3 victory over Eisenhower High of Rialto in a tournament game on March 9. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
Flintridge Sacred Heart lost to visiting South Pasadena 5-4 in a nonleague game on March 5 as Coyle pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts.
Bender went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run, while Candelora went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Blea recorded a hit, an RBI and a run, while senior Colleen Traver finished with a hit, an RBI and a walk. Smith and Nawrocki each had a hit and a run, while freshman Siena Gundersen tallied a base hit.
The Tologs (5-3) will visit La Cañada for a nonleague game on March 19 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting San Marino on March 20.
