Baseball: La Cañada Looks to Bounce Back in League Contention

The La Cañada High School varsity baseball team lost at San Marino 5-3 in a Rio Hondo League game on March 14.
Sophomore Scott Burns pitched four innings with four strikeouts, while freshman Joe Bell, who had a base hit at the plate, pitched two innings with one strikeout.
Freshman Austin Loughrin registered a double and a run, while junior captain Tyler Breckhemier finished with a double and a walk. Junior Leon Chen recorded a hit and an RBI, while junior Seth Larsen produced a base hit. Sophomore captain Will Park contributed an RBI, a run and a stolen base, while freshman Taylor Parrille tallied an RBI. Junior Shaan Gupta walked twice and scored a run, sophomore Logan Wong walked once and stole a base, and freshman Benji Geller walked once.
The Spartans (4-3-1 overall, 0-3 in league) will visit Burroughs High in Burbank on March 21 at 6 p.m. before traveling to Alhambra on March 23.

ST. FRANCIS

St Francis High School junior Dane Shepard went 2 for 3 with an RBI during a nonleague game against Taft High on March 16

The Golden Knights picked up a 7-6 extra-inning victory over visiting Taft High of Woodland Hills in a nonleague game on March 16.
Senior Callum Clark pitched a perfect inning of relief with a pair of strikeouts to earn the win, while senior Aaron Hernandez pitched four innings with three strikeouts. Junior Noah Aguilar-Tanphanich pitched two innings with two strikeouts, while senior James Mishler pitched a scoreless inning with no hits and one strikeout. Senior Jordan Viramontes went 2-for-2 with a home run, two RBIs, two walks and a run, while junior Jordan Lewallen went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run. Senior John Calmette went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI, while junior Dane Shepard went 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run and a walk. Junior Jayden Kim produced a hit and a walk, while junior Dominik Hidalgo recorded a hit and a run. Senior Kal-El Holguin walked once and stole a base, while sophomore Nick Kriebs was credited with an RBI.
St. Francis lost to visiting Sierra Canyon High of Chatsworth 6-3 in a Mission League game on March 13.
Sophomore Aiden Mahoney pitched 4 1/3 innings with three strikeouts, Lewallen finished with a triple, a run and a stolen base, and Hidalgo registered a double and an RBI. Senior Brody Ruyle produced a hit and a walk, while senior Kalani Quiroz was credited with an RBI, a run and a stolen base. Shepard walked once and scored a run, while Jayden Kim and Calmette each walked once.
SFHS secured a 3-1 league victory at Sierra Canyon High on March 12.
Senior Lucas Favretto pitched 3 2/3 innings with five strikeouts, while Holguin pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings with one strikeout. Ruyle finished with a hit and two RBIs, while Calmette recorded a hit and a run. Senior Holden Deitch and Lewallen each walked twice and scored a run, while Hidalgo walked once.
The Golden Knights (7-7 overall, 2-5 in league) will visit Loyola High of Los Angeles for a league game on March 22 at 3:30 p.m. before competing in the Nipomo Tournament from April 1-4.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves edged host Providence High in Burbank 2-1 in a Prep League game on March 15.
Junior captain Rowan Schaeffer, who had a hit and an RBI at the plate, pitched five innings with two strikeouts, while sophomore Will Grable pitched two scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Freshman Spancer Rolfe went 2-for-3 with a run, junior Will Koh recorded a double and a run, and freshman Nicholas Aparicio tallied a base hit.
Flintridge Prep overwhelmed host Providence High with a 10-0 league victory on March 12.
Schaeffer, who had a double, two runs, an RBI and a walk, pitched five scoreless innings with four strikeouts, while freshman Rocco Sablan pitched two scoreless innings.
Grable went 2-for-2 with a double, three runs and three walks, while junior Casey Augenstein went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run. Rolfe registered a hit, two RBIs, a run and a walk, Aparicio produced a hit and an RBI, and junior Brian Xu recorded a hit and a run. Junior Calvin Chen tallied two RBIs, two walks and a run, senior George Hayes was credited with two walks, an RBI and a run, and juniors Greg Sue and Ethan Park each walked once.
The Wolves (5-7 overall, 3-2 in league) will visit Rio Hondo Prep in Arcadia for a league game on March 26 at 2:30 p.m. before hosting Rio Hondo Prep on March 28.
