Boys’ Volleyball: Golden Knights Impress at Tourney

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ volleyball team was swept at South Pasadena, 23-25, 21-25, 23-25, in a Rio Hondo League match on March 14.
Senior Zach Evans racked up 17 kills, two digs and one block, while junior Quest Swan finished with 10 kills, 10 digs, one ace and one block. Senior Jared Yang contributed 20 assists, three digs, two kills and one ace, while junior Jacob Que tallied 12 assists, six kills, two digs, one ace and one block. Sophomore Riley Vencatachellum produced three digs, one kill, one ace, one block and one assist, while sophomore Albert Cho tallied four digs, three aces and one assist. Senior Parker Petroc recorded five digs and one assist, while junior Jeffrey Hickman registered three blocks and one dig.
The Spartans lost at San Marino in four games, 20-25, 25-17, 17-25, 21-25, in their league opener on March 12.
Yang racked up 28 assists, nine digs, three kills and two aces, Swan produced 17 kills, seven digs, one assist and one ace, and Evans finished with 12 kills, four blocks, one dig and one assist. Que tallied nine assists, eight kills, eight digs and one block, Cho recorded 16 digs, four aces and three assists, and Petroc contributed eight digs, two assists, one kill and one ace. Vencatachellum registered three kills and two blocks, Hickman collected three digs, and sophomore Tyler Chua had one dig.
La Cañada (6-6 overall, 0-2 in league) will visit Monrovia for a league match on March 21 at 5 p.m. before hosting Hart High of Santa Clarita on March 26.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves secured a four-game victory over visiting Palos Verdes Chadwick, 22-25, 25-16, 25-10, 25-21, in a Prep League match on March 12.
Sophomore Dylan Choi racked up 29 digs, three aces, three assists and two kills, senior Warren Nam finished with 18 assists, six digs, two aces and one kill, and freshman Milo Shin was credited with 12 assists and six digs. Sophomore Kyle Yun tallied nine kills, six digs, five aces and one assist, junior Kai Belzer recorded nine kills, five digs, one ace and one block, and freshman Nicholas Smith produced nine digs, eight kills and one block. Junior Christopher Hioe registered eight digs, three kills and one assist, junior Anthony Chang collected five digs, two kills, two aces and one block, and senior Preston Chen contributed four digs, three aces, two kills and one block. Junior William Jamison notched four kills and four digs, sophomore Zachary Tsai had four kills and one ace, and junior Peter Jordan had one kill and one block.
The Wolves (6-1, 1-0) will host Rio Hondo Prep of Arcadia for a league match on March 27 at 4:30 p.m. before visiting Providence High in Burbank on March 28.

ST. FRANCIS
The Golden Knights finished with a 3-1 record after losing to San Marcos High of Santa Barbara in their Dos Pueblos Tournament finale on March 16.
St. Francis defeated Valencia, 25-10, in a tournament match on March 16 after previously sweeping Camarillo, 25-21, 25-19, and El Camino Real High of Woodland Hills, 25-14, 25-19, earlier that same day.
St. Francis lost in four games to visiting St. Joseph High of Santa Maria, 25-23, 24-26, 15-25, 18-25, in a nonleague match on March 15. SFHS swept host Chaminade High in West Hills, 25-14, 25-12, 25-14, in its Mission League opener on March 12. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
The Golden Knights (12-7, 1-0) will host Sherman Oaks Notre Dame for a league match on March 21 at 6 p.m. before hosting Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta on March 22.
