Flintridge Bookstore Takes Part in Nationwide Celebration

Flintridge Bookstore will join more than 900 stores across the nation in celebrating the 11th anniversary of Independent Bookstore Day on Saturday, April 27. The special day was established in 2013 by the American Booksellers Association.
Flintridge Bookstore’s schedule for the day includes appearances by authors Rene Colato Lainez (“Let’s Play in the Park,” storytime 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.); Eilish Quinn (“Madea: A Novel”); and Rosanna Xia (“California Against the Sea: Visions for our Vanishing Coastline,” 1 to 3 p.m.). Allen Langston will also appear from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event will feature an announcement of the K-12 Bookmark Design Contest winners at 1:30 p.m.
There will also be an opportunity to:

  • Learn about self-publishing on Flintridge Bookstore’s Espresso Book Machine (EBM)
  • Celebrate the release of Dav Pilkey’s “Dog Man: The Scarlet Shedder” with a scavenger hunt.
  • Win a selection of books and there will be various giveaways
“Independent Bookstore Day is a wonderful way for the community to come out and show their support of these vital brick-and-mortar businesses, but it also gives bookstores the opportunity to give back by providing an exciting day of programming and festivities for all ages,” according to a statement from Flintridge Bookstore, which is family-owned and has served the community since 2007. “Our shelves offer a wide variety of books as well as gifts, toys, stationery and greeting cards. We carry core literature for the La Cañada Unified School District. We also have a full schedule of events, including author appearances, storytime and book clubs.”
Flintridge Bookstore is located at 858 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada Flintridge. The bookstore’s hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sundays. There is street parking and a lot behind the store off Beulah Drive.
