La Cañada Elementary School fourth graders recently studied the California Gold Rush of 1849.
To mark the completion of the unit focusing on the history of that era, students put on their cowboy hats, boots and mining clothes to look as though they were headed to find gold nuggets. Activities for the day included corn shucking, potato bag racing and pie-eating.
Parent volunteers were on hand to help them move through the various activities.
