Baseball: Chen Powers La Cañada to Nonleague Victory

The La Cañada High School varsity baseball team lost to visiting South Pasadena 9-0 in a Rio Hondo League game on April 8. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
The Spartans posted a narrow 4-3 nonleague victory over visiting Yeshiva University of Los Angeles on April 4.
Junior Flynn Lewis recorded a hit and three stolen bases, while freshmen Austin Loughrin and Joe Bell each finished with a hit and a stolen base. Junior Leon Chen was credited with two walks, two RBIs, two stolen bases and a run, sophomore Matt Miller walked twice, and junior captain Tyler Breckhemier walked once and stole a base. Junior Ryan Talbert walked once, junior Seth Larsen stole a base and sophomore Scott Burns scored a run.
La Cañada lost at Crescenta Valley High in La Crescenta 9-5 in a nonleague game on April 2.
Lewis registered a hit, two RBIs, a walk and a stolen base, while sophomore Will Park contributed a hit, a run and a stolen base. Loughrin recorded a hit, a run and two walks, while Chen produced a hit, a run and a walk. Talbert walked twice and scored a run, while Breckhemier tallied an RBI and a walk. Bell was credited with an RBI, while junior Raj Anand scored a run.
La Cañada (6-8-1 overall, 1-5 in league) will visit South Pasadena for a league game on April 11 at 3:30 p.m. before traveling to Temple City on April 15.

St Francis High School sophomore Bobby Milton contributed a double and an RBI to help the Golden Knights beat Heritage High in their Palm Desert Tournament finale on April 4

Junior Noah Aguilar-Tanphanich pitched for innings with five strikeouts. Senior Callum Clark pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings, while senior James Mishler pitched 1 1/3 innings with a strikeout. Junior Jayden Kim went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run, while sophomore Bobby Milton registered a double, an RBI, a run and a walk. Sophomore JT Martin finished with a hit, two RBIs and a run, while junior Dane Shepard produced a hit, a run and a walk. Senior Holden Deitch, senior Kalani Quiroz and junior Jackson Pratt each walked once and scored a run, junior Samuel Rodriguez walked twice, and senior Brody Ruyle was credited with an RBI.
St. Francis picked up a 9-6 victory over Xavier Prep High of Palm Desert in a tournament game on April 3.
Sophomore Aiden Mahoney pitched four innings with a pair of strikeouts, while senior Kal-El Holguin pitched two innings with a strikeout. Quiroz went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a run and a stolen base, Jayden Kim went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run, and Pratt contributed a double, an RBI and a run. Senior John Calmette produced a hit and two RBIs, while junior Jordan Lewallen finished with a hit and an RBI. Junior Dominik Hidalgo recorded two walks, two runs and an RBI, Shepard walked twice and scored a run, and Ruyle tallied three walks. Senior Jordan Viramontes walked once and scored a run, while Martin stole a base.

Viramontes went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run, Shepard and Deitch each recorded a hit, a run and a walk, and Lewallen finished with a hit and a run. Ruyle registered a hit and a walk, Jayden Kim and Calmette each tallied a base hit, and Hidalgo was credited with an RBI. Quiroz, who had a hit and an RBI at the plate, pitched four innings with three strikeouts, while senior Aaron Hernandez pitched two innings with two strikeouts.
The Golden Knights overwhelmed Shadow Hills High of Indio with an 11-2 victory in their tournament opener on April 1 as Ruyle slugged a three-run home run.
Senior Lucas Favretto pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Mishler pitched 1 2/3 innings with a strikeout, while junior Nathan Kim pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
Shepard registered a double, an RBI, a run and a walk, Deitch tallied a double, a run and a walk, and Hernandez recorded a double. Quiroz contributed a hit, two runs and a stolen base, while Calmette and Viramontes each produced a hit and a run. Martin finished with an RBI, a run and a stolen base, while Lewallen was credited with a walk and an RBI. Sophomore Nick Kriebs scored a run, Jayden Kim had an RBI and Hidalgo stole a base.
St. Francis (13-8, 5-5) will visit Crespi High in Encino for a Mission League game on April 16 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting the Celts on April 17.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves lost at Tahquitz High in Hemet 5-4 in a nonleague game on April 6.
Sophomore Will Grable, who went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a walk at the plate, pitched four innings with two strikeouts. Junior Matthew Chino, who had a hit and a run at the plate, pitched 1 2/3 innings with two strikeouts, while junior Greg Sue pitched one inning of relief. Junior captain Rowan Schaeffer recorded a hit, a run and a stolen base, while junior Will Koh produced a hit and a run. Junior Brian Xu contributed a base hit, while freshman Nicholas Aparicio scored a run and stole a base.
Flintridge Prep secured a 12-7 Prep League victory over visiting Rio Hondo Prep of Arcadia on April 5.
Schaeffer, who went 3-for-5 with two runs and two stolen bases at the plate, pitched four innings with five strikeouts. Freshman Rocco Sablan pitched two innings with four strikeouts, while freshman Christopher Chino pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout. Junior Ethan Park went 2-for-2 with two runs, an RBI and a stolen base, while Aparicio went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a stolen base. Matthew Chino finished with a hit, two runs, two stolen bases, an RBI and a walk, while Xu recorded a hit, an RBI, a run, a walk and a stolen base. Junior Calvin Chen contributed a hit and two RBIs, while freshman Spancer Rolfe produced a hit and a run. Grable tallied three stolen bases, two runs and an RBI, Koh walked once and scored a run, and junior Casey Augenstein scored a run.

Koh, who had a hit, an RBI, a run and a walk at the plate, pitched 4 1/3 innings with three strikeouts. Grable, who had a double and scored a run at the plate, pitched a scoreless inning with one strikeout, while Sue pitched two-thirds of an inning. Aparicio went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run, while sophomore Nathan Sanok went 2-for-3 with a run. Xu was credited with two RBIs and a stolen base, Rolfe walked twice, and Chen walked once.
Flintridge Prep (8-9, 6-2) will host Palos Verdes Chadwick for a league game on April 11 at 3:30 p.m. before visiting Verbum Dei Jesuit High in Los Angeles on April 13.
