Swimming and Diving: La Cañada Impresses at Meet of Champions

The La Cañada High School varsity girls’ swimming and diving teams competed against top teams at the Mt. SAC H.S Swimming & Diving Spring Meet of Champions, finishing second overall out of 55 teams with 366.5 points.
The boys’ team also competed alongside the girls during the two-day event at Mt. San Antonio College, finishing sixth among 44 teams with 270 points.
Mia Bugarin won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4 minutes, 48.61 seconds, and Lilli Perner finished seventh in 5:13.56. Avalon Sanders placed 13th, clocking in 5:22.78.
The 400 free relay team of Meredith O’Grady, Sanders, Perner and Bugarin won the race in 3:36.04. The 200 free relay team of Natalee Yun, O’Grady, Sanders and Bugarin finished fourth with a time of 1:40.40.
Bugarin placed fourth in the 200 free in 1:52.05, while O’Grady was close behind in sixth finishing in 1:53.67. Perner finished ninth in 1:56.66 and Sanders was 18th clocking 2:01.75. O’Grady placed eighth in the 100 free in 53.42, while Yun placed 20th with in 55.48. Yun finished 12th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:09.64, while Lorelei Rocca was 22nd in the 50 free with a time of 25.85. Meanwhile, Emi Machida finished fourth in the 1-meter dive, scoring 438.70.


BOYS’ SWIMMING
The Spartans were led by Ryan Makouar, who won the 100 butterfly in 48.32, while Pierce O’Grady finished runner-up clocking 49.06. The 400 free relay team of Jeffrey Wang, Sam Baker, O’Grady and Makouar finished second in 3:11.93, while the 200 free relay team of Jeffrey Wang, O’Grady, Baker and Makouar finished third in 1:27.59.
Makouar placed third in the 200 individual medley clocking in 1:53.56, while Elliott Lee was 17th in 2:02.50 time. The 200 medley relay team of Elliott Lee, Theo Lee, Ashwin Fernando and Jacob Wang placed 24th in 1:44.59. Meanwhile, Jacob Wang placed 20th in the 100 backstroke with a 57.09 time, while Jeffrey Wang was 27th with a 59.17 time.
O’Grady was third in the 200 free in 1:41.83, while Elliott Lee finished 26th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.27. Kamael Marchen was 68th in the 500 free in 5:48.50, while George Sanders placed 69th with a 6:18.05 time.
