Lanterman House to Host 210 Freeway Lecture

The Lanterman House will sponsor a free lecture about the building of the 210 Freeway on Sunday, May 5, at 2:30 p.m.
Using images and materials from the Lanterman archives, Lanterman House archivist Julie Yamashita will tell the story of the construction of the 210 Freeway through La Cañada. In preparation, Yamashita has delved into the archives to find the unique images and material which illustrates the story.
Although the community’s 2.5-mile section of the freeway “held millions of dollars of federal funds for California in the balance, the people of La Cañada fiercely battled against it, even taking their fight all the way to Washington to keep it at bay,” according to a Lanterman House press release. “Ultimately, however, over 500 homes were destroyed or relocated, and the landscape of the town [was] forever altered.”
The lecture will be held in the Visitor Center at the historic Lanterman House located at 4420 Encinas Dr.
Guests interested in touring the Lanterman House can make a reservation for the 1 p.m. tour. For more information, visit lantermanhouse.org.
