Baseball: Loughrin Homers in Spartans Season Finale

The La Cañada High School varsity baseball team ended its season with a 3-2 Rio Hondo League loss at San Marino on April 25 as freshman Austin Loughrin went 2-for-2 with a solo home run, a double and a walk.
Junior Leon Chen walked twice and scored a run while sophomores Finn Flower-Hogan and Will Park each walked once. Junior Cash Carroll pitched 4 1/3 innings with a strikeout while freshman Joe Bell pitched 1 2/3 innings with three strikeouts.
The Spartans were shut out by visiting San Marino 3-0 in a league game on April 23.
Junior Tyler Breckheimer recorded a double while junior Ryan Talbert walked once. Sophomore Scott Burns pitched five innings with a pair of strikeouts, while junior Flynn Lewis pitched two innings with three strikeouts.
LCHS finished the campaign fifth in league with a 1-11 record (6-14-1 overall).

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves ended the regular season with a 5-3 victory at Valley Christian High in Cerritos on April 24.
Junior Rowan Schaeffer, who had a hit, a run and a stolen base, pitched five innings with seven strikeouts. Meanwhile sophomore Will Grable, who went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI at the plate, pitched two innings with three strikeouts. Freshman Nicholas Aparicio contributed a double and two RBIs while junior Brian Xu recorded a hit, two stolen bases and a run. Sophomore Nathan Sanok finished with a hit and a run while junior Will Koh tallied a base hit. Junior Matthew Chino walked twice, scored a pair of runs and stole two bases, while junior Casey Augenstein walked once.
The Wolves, who finished as Prep League co-champions with a 9-3 record (13-11 overall), will host Newbury Park High of Simi Valley (15-12) for their CIF Southern Section Division III opener on May 3. If victorious, Flintridge Prep would advance to the second round and meet either Summit High of Fontana (23-5) or Linfield Christian High of Temecula (13-12) on May 7.

ST. FRANCIS

St Francis High senior Brody Ruyle slugged a two run homer during a Mission League game against Chaminade High on April 24

The Golden Knights suffered a 15-2 Mission League loss at Chaminade High in West Hills to end the regular season on April 24.
Senior Brody Ruyle slugged a two-run home run while senior Holden Deitch recorded a hit, a walk and a stolen base. Junior Jackson Pratt finished a hit and a stolen base, senior John Calmette and junior Jordan Lewallen each tallied a base hit, and senior Jordan Viramontes scored a run. Sophomore Aiden Mahoney pitched two innings with one strikeout, while senior Kal-El Holguin pitched 1 2/3 innings with one strikeout. Junior Nathan Kim pitched one inning, while seniors Callum Clark and Lucas Favretto each pitched two-thirds of an inning.
SFHS narrowly lost to visiting Chaminade High 1-0 in a league game on April 23.
Viramontes registered a double while Ruyle and Calmette each tallied a base hit. Deitch walked once and stole a base while Lewallen walked once. Senior Aaron Hernandez pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings with a strikeout, while senior James Mishler pitched two innings. Junior Noah Aguilar-Tanphanich pitched a perfect inning of relief, while Favretto pitched two-thirds of an inning.
The Golden Knights, who finished fifth in league with a 7-10 record (15-13 overall), will visit Windward High of Los Angeles (17-8) for their CIF Southern Section Division IV opener on May 2 at 3:15 p.m. If victorious, St. Francis would advance to the second round and meet wither San Juan Hills High of San Juan Capistrano (20-7) or Cajon High of San Bernardino (14-11) on May 7.
