Boys’ Tennis: Spartans’ CIF Playoff Run Ends in Quarterfinals

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ tennis team lost at Northwood High in Irvine 13-5 in the CIF Southern Section Division I quarterfinals on May 6.
The No. 3 doubles team of Aaron Pan and David Lee won a pair of sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-3, while the No. 1 tandem of Cayden Chang and Blake Chang added a 6-0 victory. In singles play, No. 2 Konan Sahara (6-1) and No. 1 Seth Lindenfeld (6-2) each won a set.
The Spartans secured a 12-6 second-round victory over visiting Marina High of Huntington Beach on May 3.
The No. 1 doubles team of Cayden Chang and Blake Chang swept with scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 7-6. The No. 2 tandem of Pan and Lee swept with scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-3. The No. 3 duo of Spencer Moravec and Isaac Lai swept with scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-3. In singles play, No. 1 Sahara won a pair of sets with scores of 7-6 and 6-2, while No. 3 Lindenfeld added a 7-5 victory.
LCHS overwhelmed visiting Cypress with a 15-3 CIF-opening victory on May 1.
No. 1 Enzo Lee and No. 2 Lindenfeld each won a pair of sets with identical 6-0 and 6-1 scores, while No. 3 Sahara added a pair of 6-1 victories in singles action. The No. 1 doubles team of Cayden Chang and Blake Chang swept with scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1. The No. 2 tandem of Lee and Pan won a pair of sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-3. Pan alternated with Jonah Stritmatter, and the new duo secured a 6-2 victory to complete the sweep. The No. 3 team of Moravec and Lai won a pair of sets with scores of 6-0 and 6-2. Lai alternated with Justin Son, and the new duo posted a 6-2 victory to complete the sweep.
La Cañada finished the campaign as Rio Hondo League co-champions with a 7-1 record (11-4 overall).

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves secured a narrow victory in games, 9-9 (72-66), over visiting Long Beach Wilson in a CIF Southern Section Division II quarterfinal matchup on May 6.
No. 1 singles player Jeremy Sieben (6-0, 6-0, 6-1) and No. 2 Ray Cabrera (6-1, 6-2, 6-3) each swept, while No. 3 Niko Christopoulos added a 6-0 victory. The No. 2 doubles team of Finley Shivaram and Logan Wu won a pair of sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-3.
Flintridge Prep defeated host Walnut 12-6 in the second round of the CIF playoffs on May 3.
No. 2 Sieben recorded a clean sweep with a trio of 6-0 victories, while No. 1 Christopoulos (6-0, 6-1, 6-2) and No. 3 Cabrera (6-0, 6-0, 6-3) each swept. The No. 2 doubles team of Shivaram and Wu won a pair of sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-4, while the No. 3 tandem of Dilan Robbins and Noah Mukherjee added a 6-3 victory.
The Wolves posted an 11-7 CIF-opening victory over visiting Simi Valley on May 1.
No. 1 Cabrera and No. 2 Sieben each swept with identical scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-2, while No. 3 Christopoulos also swept with scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1. The No. 2 doubles team of Shivaram and Wu won a pair of sets with scores of 7-6 and 6-3.
Flintridge Prep (20-1 overall) visited South Torrance on May 8; the CIF semifinal match ended after the Outlook Valley Sun’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. If victorious, the Wolves would advance to the CIF championship at the University of Redlands on May 10 at 12:45 p.m.
