Torch Run Honors Fallen Officers

The Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station participated on May 19 in the 49th annual Memorial Torch Run, which was established in 1975 to remember the brave and dedicated peace officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
The torch run is a nonstop relay of 56 legs and stretches more than 300 miles to each of the patrol stations on the mainland. This year’s run was dedicated to Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer and Police Officer Chad Swanson from Manhattan Beach.
The Crescenta Valley station took the torch from the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station on Angeles Forest Highway at Mile Marker 15, then ran to Angeles Crest Highway and Foothill Boulevard in La Cañada Flintridge. The runners then turned west and went to the station, where the team from the Altadena Sheriff’s Station was waiting. Crescenta Valley Deputy John Hong and the LASD Elite Running Team ran nearly 16 miles on the steep mountain roads. Another station member rode his bike the entire 21 miles. The LASD-Montrose Search and Rescue Team took the torch for the final leg.
The station will never forget the sacrifice made by all the peace officers who gave their lives in service to the residents of Los Angeles County.
