Library Receives Local Donation for Children’s Programming

The La Cañada Flintridge public library recently received a $1,000 donation from a local nonprofit to contribute to children’s programming.
MAEVE of the Foothills, which stands for Motherhood, Alliance, Equity, Village and Empowerment, is a nonprofit organization that seeks to empower all who mother in support of one another and their communities.
Founded in July 2021, the organization has more than 275 members in La Cañada, La Crescenta/Montrose and surrounding communities.
“Our mission is to support and inspire people throughout their motherhood journeys, no matter what that looks like for each individual,” said Melissa Talbert, president of MAEVE. “Connecting with people going through similar things reduces feelings of isolation and overwhelm, which are so common in motherhood these days.”
Talbert said this is the first time the organization has made a donation to the library, and she hopes that it will just be the start and expand to La Crescenta and Montrose.
“Summer is always a hectic time for families while school is out, and we were looking for a way to support activities to benefit local families over these months,” she said, adding that many of the MAEVE members enjoy the arts and crafts activities organized by the LCF library.
Library Manager Mark Totten was happy to receive the donation, especially since donations don’t come in very often for programming, adding that he would like to see more of that in the future.
“Of course we would always like to get donations,” he said. “In addition to programming, we purchase books for adults and children which supplements the county library’s book budget.”
