Industry Experts Mentor Girl Scouts

The Assistance League of Flintridge’s c hosted its first Girl Scout mentorship event and dinner April 17 for about 50 cadette, senior and ambassador Girl Scouts, leaders and parents from the La Cañada Girl Scout Service Unit.

The event included a multi-industry keynote panel and multiple rounds of industry-specific mentorship to inspire the young, future leaders. Topics ranged from career prospecting, interest alignment, growth and educational paths. Keynote speakers were Nagin Cox of NASA, Danielle Maurizio of the L.A. County Sanitation Districts and Elizabeth Yang of Kutak Rock LLP.

The Girl Scouts had the opportunity to speak with women from various industries and career levels as they consider post-high school plans. Many Scouts, leaders and parents expressed gratitude to the speakers and mentors for explaining career journeys, offering advice and answering questions. The mentors provided diverse perspectives on mapping careers and education. The enthusiasm was palpable as the professionals and Scouts inspired and supported each other’s goals. Positive feedback prompted the Cañada Auxiliary of Professionals to plan a second event next year for La Cañada Girl Scouts and expand to some surrounding service units.

CAP members participate in several philanthropic programs including our Scholarship Program, Cappy Bears with USC/VHH, CAP Care PACs for Union Station Homeless Services, and Operation School Bell in collaboration with ALF.
