James McPhillips (1940-2023) passed away on February 4th at the age of 82, peacefully in his home with family by his side.
James was born in Ireland on March 8, 1940, to Sara and James. As a young boy, James moved from Ireland to Scotland where he spent his teenage years working as a carpenter’s apprentice.
While working on a job, James would then meet the love of his life, Anna. They were soon sponsored to come to the United States, and so they jumped on a 747 and arrived on April 7, 1962. With only a few hundred dollars, James and Anna found themselves in sunny California, where they created a beautiful life for themselves and their two children, Caroline and Mark.
James worked in the world of carpentry and was able to provide a gracious life for them in La Cañada since 1974.
James had a profound love for life and music. He would often be heard singing or humming his favorite tunes from the classics and Irish songs. He loved playing golf anytime he had a chance and visiting family back in Europe.
James’ legacy will be forever carried on by Anna, Caroline, Mark, Cheryl, Colleen, Seamus, and Sarah. His life will be celebrated on February 21 at St. Bede’s church at 9:45 a.m.
