Michele Looney Gardenier passed away peacefully with her family and friends by her side on Aug. 3, due to surgical complications. She is survived by her husband, William M. Gardenier, and her mother, sister, sister-in-law and four precious nieces. Their dad was her brother, Michael James Looney, who passed away in 2009 from cancer.
Michele was born on April 6, 1959, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She graduated from La Cañada High School in 1977. Her career was spent working with her dear friend James Pokorny at his law office, during which time she bravely fought and won her battle with lung cancer.
Michele adored her dog Molly and was an avid Chargers fan. She also loved traveling the world. Her zest for life was most apparent through her amazing and outstanding parties that she gave for any and all occasions. Her generous and kind spirit made her a lovable and unforgettable character and she will have a lasting impact on all who knew her.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, Aug. 11, at 2 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church at 6628 Santa Isabel St. in Carlsbad. A reception follows at the Grand Hyatt Aviara. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society.
