The 6th-graders in Lisa Fungo’s class at La Cañada Elementary School started off 2017 with a poetry unit. They read poetry and learned about its different types. Focusing on meter and rhyme, it was their turn to write a short limerick, a five-line poem that rhymes and has a humorous flair. Some of their first lines included: “There was a man with a plan, and his name was Stan,” “There was a man on a boat, who had his very own float,” “There once was a scary old clown, who loved to scare the people in town” and “There was a man at the park, who sat on a piece of bark.”
