When La Cañada Flintridge voters head to the polls for a consolidated municipal and special election on Tuesday, March 7, they will have a say in matters with citywide and countywide consequences.
Locally, Jonathan Curtis, Keith Eich and Dave Spence are running for two open seats on the City Council. County-wide, Measure H presen02ts voters with a decision on whether to levy a quarter-cent sales tax for 10 years to help prevent and combat homelessness.
Curtis, 57, is the city’s current mayor. A resident of LCF for close to 20 years, he has highlighted his experience as a corporate and land-use attorney during his campaign for a second term. Before joining the City Council, Curtis served on the city’s Planning Commission.
Eich, 37, has been an LCF resident for about three years. An engineer with three young children, he characterizes himself as an apt representative of many of La Cañadans with young families whose children are either currently attending or about to attend La Cañada Unified School District schools.
Spence, 80, is a retired salesman who has served continuously on the City Council since 1992, including a record six times as mayor. His campaign has focused on his experience with city government, including his time serving on the Public Safety Commission in the late 1980s. He’s also touted his positions on various boards and committees within the county.
Five polling places are expected to be open in LCF, and voters can drop off completed vote-by-mail ballots during regular business hours until Monday, March 6, at City Hall.
Measure H asks voters to weigh in on whether to approve a quarter-cent sales tax that would generate about $355 million annually for an array of services dedicated to supporting homeless individuals and families. It needs approval from two-thirds of voters to pass.
