LC Teachers Association Opens Senior Scholarships

The La Cañada Teachers Association is now accepting applications for eight different scholarships it sponsors, with applications available to seniors electronically via the “Scholarship List” on the Naviance website and in hardcopy from the visual and performing arts teachers and from the school librarian.
The scholarships for visual artists include the Jeanne Maus Memorial Scholarship and the Fred Stuhr Memorial Scholarship, which were established in honor of the memory of Jeanne Maus and Fred Stuhr and their artistic accomplishments. Applicants for each of these scholarships must be planning to continue an involvement in art.
The Ryder Buck Memorial Scholarship was established to celebrate LCHS graduate Ryder Buck, his life and his belief in the power of music, to honor his memory and to help make a difference in his name. Applicants must intend to study performing arts in college in the field of music: vocal or instrumental. The Patrick Rappleye Memorial Scholarship, established to honor the memory and musical accomplishments of former LCHS music student Patrick Rappleye is intended to benefit a student with a passion and love for music, a musician who specializes in a wind instrument. The Steven R. Orr Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of a highly respected member of the La Cañada Community and father of two La Cañada High School graduates, Matt and Will. The scholarship will be granted on the basis of academic achievement, extra-curricular involvement and character.
The Dorothy Griffin Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a member of Bridge, the Peer Counseling Program, who has served in a leadership role and demonstrates the ideals of the LCHS Peer Counseling Program.
The La Cañada Teachers Association established the Marjorie Pursel Memorial Scholarship in memory of a highly respected LCUSD elementary teacher. The scholarship will be granted on the basis of financial need, academic achievement, activities and service.
The Future Teachers Scholarship was established as a scholarship fund to encourage those students who want to the teach.
Each scholarship has specific requirements, with the application deadline on March 24 at 3 p.m., to be turned in to the LCHS guidance office. More details are available on the applications. For more information, contact Sally Spangler at smspangler@yahoo.com.
