Spartans, Rebels Ousted in 1st Round

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ volleyball team fell to host No. 6 seed Quartz Hill in three games, 25-13, 25-10, 25-21, in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 2 playoffs on Tuesday.
The Spartans finished the season with a 5-17 record, including a record of 3-5 in Rio Hondo League play. La Cañada finished third in the standings with two victories over Gabrielino and a win over San Marino.

The Rebels’ postseason run came to an end in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 3 playoffs after falling to visiting Oxnard in five games, 25-18, 18-25, 21-25, 25-20, 15-5, on Tuesday.
AJ Nicassio led Prep with 18 kills, 21 digs, four assists and three blocks, and Jonny Samuels added 15 kills and two aces. Majeed Ismail had six kills, Garrett Gaines tallied five kills, Nathan Powell finished with four kills and Jake Althouse totaled four kills and seven blocks.
Flintridge Prep finished the season with a 21-7 record and won its fifth consecutive Prep League crown with a 7-1 record.
